History

Founded as “Blue Ribbon Sports” in 1964 by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight,

Nike quickly grew to become the leader in sportswear and shoes.

Today, Nike produces a variety of products and continues to be a leader in

innovation and technology within the sports apparel industry.

Nike has created and maintained an excellent reputation by staying true to

their core values and mission statement of “Bring Inspiration

and Innovation to every athlete in the world”.

Prior to the late 20th century, powerlifting shoes were not the norm. Most

lifters lifted in sneakers or basic running shoes, as powerlifting shoes were

not widely available. In the late 80s and early 90s, brands such as Adidas,

Nike and Reebok began to release more technical powerlifting shoes, as the

sport became more popular. The introduction of these shoes allowed for

more stability when lifting and allowed for better transfer of power from the

ground up.
